FAQ
Choosing an effective Psychologist is like choosing a life partner - chemistry and trust are an essential combination in a successful relationship.

Which techniques do you use?
I use a client-centred approach, dependent on the individual client's needs. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is the gold standard. I also use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, EMDR and Psychodynamic Therapy. Mindfulness, relaxation and developing social and communication skills are key parts of therapy.
How long does each therapy session take?
Therapy sessions are 50-60 minutes in duration. EMDR sessions may require 70-90 minutes.
How does therapy work with children?
Therapy with children has a more hands-on approach. There are likely to be games, drawing, playdough etc. involved as we talk about tricky situations and big feelings. This is how children learn best. An initial parent intake session is encouraged and we look forward to meeting your child in the following session. Parents are encouraged to spend the first 5-10 minutes of each session in the room and then when the child is comfortable to 'fly solo', we have a waiting room nearby for family.
How many sessions will I need?
How long is a piece of string? The answer to this question will differ based on the reason you are seeking therapy, funding, time available and also time you have spent in habits that will benefit from change. Motivation, openness, and readiness for change are also variable. Therapy is a collaborative process, a therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. This will be regularly reviewed.
Will my faith be understood?
The term spirituality means different things to different people. Vivacity Psychology offers a service to all segments of community and do not prejudice or bias therapy. There is evidence indicating that having a spiritual dimension can bring about positive impacts to mental health. If you are wanting to talk to someone who is on the same faith page as you, Vivienne is open to exploring your concerns within a Christian framework.
Do you bulk bill?
Bulk bill may be available to a limited number of clients who genuinely cannot afford the gap fee. GP referral is required. Eligibility for bulk bill will be reviewed after the initial 6 sessions of MHCP. 4 further sessions may be requested in a calendar year.
